CONWY Parkrun welcomed over three-hundred mixed ability athletes to the picturesque yet puddle-filled course at the RSPB site last Saturday.

But it was the North Wales Road Runners Club (NWRRC) members who took the plaudits, with some exceptional performances as the drizzle closed in.

NWRRC entered fifteen members and packed well with four runners finishing in the top-ten and seven of the team also claimed age category wins, two second, and three third place awards, in addition to claiming three new parkrun PBs. And Richard Eccles also set a remarkable new course record for his age group by 10 seconds.

Jonathan Kettle was the first club man home in 17 minutes 35 seconds, and won his VM45-49 cat, but this time he had to settle for 4th place overall behind some superb visiting elite runners in 17.35.

Josh Keogh was another man in fine form finishing 5th with a PB of 18.01, and he was 2nd in his SM30-34 cat, with Richard Eccles just five-seconds behind Josh, but another PB claimant winning his VM55-59 age cat in 7th place in 18.06 to set a new course record for his age group.

Mark Jessett, who is hard into his marathon training, finished 8th, and won his VM35-39 cat in 18.29.

The first female finisher was Anna Mackenzie (Eryri Harriers) in 19.32.

Harry Driscoll won his SM20-24 age cat in 19.29 for 12th place, with Troy Kettle, the ultra-marathon teenager recovering from his recent success to finish 17th overall and 1st 18-19 cat in 19.55.

Stuart Culverhouse was 20th and 2nd M45-49 in 20.10, with Gethin Wyn Jones finishing 31st and 3rd VM35-39 in 21.25, Tony Price Jones 56th in 23.19, and Sean Butler 3rd VM60-64 cat in 62nd place in 23.30.

Jamie Tharme also claimed a new parkrun PB in 23.46 for 69th place, and master veteran Don Hale won his M65-69 age cat in 74th place in 24.03, with fellow master Rob Fryer finishing 3rd M65-69 cat in 24.38 for 88th place.

Youngster Joe Culverhouse won his JM10 cat again in 97th place in 25.22, with another master vet, Ian Turner, claiming his third parkrun PB on the trot in 27.52, dipping under 28-minutes for the very first time, and finished 139th.

Praise was later given to the race organisers, marshalls, volunteers, and to Amanda Durber and Bethan Wyn Roberts for their usual pre-run course check.

The event attracted the usual sprinkling of elite club runners and fun runners amongst the 312 finishers, and Rhodri Owen was 1st overall in 16.24 as the SM30-34 cat winner.

Matthew Roberts was 2nd and claimed the VM40-44 age cat in 16.28, with Steve Forsyth finishing a very close 3rd despite a great new parkrun PB of 16.46.

Here are the provisional parkrun results in full.

Rising Sun parkrun for Jon Evans

NWRRC athlete Jon Evans went on his travels again, this time visiting the Rising Sun parkrun in the North-East last Saturday, as he prepared for the Great North run the following day.

He was 49th overall out of 291 finishers in 23.22. He was also 3rd in his VM55-59 age category.
