PLANS have been submitted to transform the empty floors of a former store in Llandudno into apartments.

The Madoc Street property, which has been unused Littlewoods store Outlet shut in 2018, would become three apartment buildings.

The application, Marc Larner, said the property, which had been a Lazars department store for several decades since the early 1960s, would meet a shift in demand for residential accommodation in the town.

The exterior of the Victorian buildings will also be sensitively revamped, while the ground floor would remain a retail unit.

The application is asking to change the use of the first, second and third floors, from shops to residential.

Robothams Architecture said the development would meet the need for more accommodation in the town centre while bringing the building back into use.

The firm said: "We have become more aware, following the recent years' events, office, retail and commercial rental are facing a significant downturn as many businesses and individuals consider an alternative, homeworking future.

"With a paradigm shift in building use, the proposed change-of-use to residential looks to meet this demand."

There would only be three parking spaces “due to the confines of the existing site”.
