A STUDY by the UK’s biggest art marketplace has put Llandudno among the top 10 art-buying town capitals in the UK.

Llandudno’s art-lovers buy more paintings than any other kind of art, according to Artfinder, with oil and acrylic paintings making up 39 per cent of all pieces bought.

And there are a total of 756 artworks bought per 100,000 inhabitants, its research shows.

Landscapes, sea and sky (23 per cent of all purchases) is the preferred artwork subject, with animals and birds coming a close second (20 per cent of all purchases).

Also in the top 10 were towns such as Redhill, crowned as the art-buying capital, Motherwell, Kirkcaldy, Kilmarnock, Paisley, Rochester, Romford, Truro, and Tunbridge Wells, making them the UK’s most arty towns.

When it comes to style, the people of Llandudno’s top purchases are on both impressionistic (28 per cent of all purchases) and illustrative art (15 per cent of all purchases). Interestingly, grey is the most popular artwork colour across the UK, including Truro, where it is used on 42 per cent of all pieces purchased.

Michal Szczesny, CEO at Artfinder said: “It’s brilliant to see Llandudno in the top ten towns list for art-buying capitals of the UK. 2020 saw a real boom for the online art market, with overall online art sales worldwide doubling to a record high of $12.4 billion in 2020, accounting for an all-time high of 25 per cent of the art market’s overall value, up from just 9 per cent in 2019.

Our study shows that the whole of the UK is buying original art for their homes and here at Artfinder, we couldn’t be happier to provide the nation’s art-lovers with unique pieces created by independent artists."
