DOZENS of new COVID cases have been recorded in North Wales according to recent figures, public health officials report.

There have now been more than 64,350 lab-confirmed cases of the virus identified from the combined counties since the outbreak of the pandemic - after more incidents were confirmed by Public Health Wales (PHW) in the latest figures released on September 24.

PHW confirmed that 631 of the latest 2,727 Welsh cases came from the northern region.

They can be broken down as such:

• Anglesey – 59 (84.2 per 100,000 population)

• Conwy – 158 (134.8 per 100,000 population)

• Denbighshire – 104 (108.7 per 100,000 population)

• Flintshire – 112 (71.7 per 100,000 population)

• Gwynedd – 102 (81.9 per 100,000 population)

• Wrexham – 96 (70.6 per 100,000 population)

BCUHB stats:

• Total confirmed COVID-19 cases from North Wales as of September 24 – 64,351

Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board (BCUHB) – the largest health board in Wales – has reported 1,028 people have sadly died since the start of the pandemic, according to PHW data.

Figures from the Office for National Statistics, which are considered a stronger indicator of the overall impact of the virus, and which are based on all deaths where COVID is mentioned on the death certificate, stand at 1,458 for the health board area.

Vaccine status:

The latest vaccination figures for Wales reveals that over 2,403,570 people have taken up the offer of a single COVID vaccine dose. Meanwhile, a total of 2,214,247 people are double jabbed.

These figures cover the entire country of Wales and all those eligible for a vaccine dose.

The national picture:

Across Wales, another 2,727 COVID cases were confirmed in the latest figures, meaning that 338,338 people are now known to have contracted the coronavirus since the pandemic began.

There were two more deaths reported on Friday, with the figure at 5,839 across Wales since the start of the pandemic.
