A TOTAL of 130 pupils took part in a 26-mile marathon around Colwyn Bay for a charity campaign.

Rydal Penrhos School joined madcap charity campaigner, Rob’s Senseless Challenge, to take on the challenge on September 24 in aid of Sense charity, where Rob Lloyd, property developer and TV personality, volunteers as a community fundraiser.

Rob, 57, of Rhos-On-Sea, has supported Sense for years, participating in fundraising events such as the London Marathon, and even offering his expertise to help them open new charity shops across the UK.

The route began at Rydal school, then headed around Colwyn Bay, through Llandudno town centre, before returning to Rydal.

Rob said: "The event was a real success, I would like to thank everyone who supported us on the day to help raise funds for this amazing cause. Over the last couple of years, I’ve been in a battle with cancer, and it has made me really think about what more I can do with my life. How I can give back more?

“That’s how I came up with my Sense-less Challenge. Training for all these challenges has been gruelling but last week’s event has given me a huge lift. It’s made me want to continue to go the extra mile.”

Rob has now raised more than £52,000 which will go towards supporting families and children with complex disabilities.

Lucy Davies, headmistress at Rydal Penrhos School, said: “We are proud to have supported our alumnus Rob during such an incredible charity initiative.

"The work of our pupils and alumni in the local community is vital to the ethos of the School, and we wish Rob the best of luck with the rest of his campaign.”

Richard Kramer, Sense chief executive, said: "Rob’s heroic efforts, after the most challenging period, have provided everyone at Sense with a huge boost, from our staff to the wonderful families we support.

“The money raised will make a huge difference to people with complex disabilities and families across the UK.”
