ITV has confirmed Coronation Street star Sally Dynevor as the first celebrity contestant taking part in Dancing on Ice 2022.

The 58-year-old actress is best known as Sally Webster in the long-running ITV soap.

Dynevor appeared on Lorraine to announce the news, saying: “This is a massive challenge. It really, really is.

“I’m not getting any younger. I’ve just got to take every opportunity I get so that when I’m old I can say ‘You know what? I gave it a go’.”

She added: “Now everyone knows I’m doing it I can’t back out, can I? And I’m so scared.”

Off screen, Dynevor is married to Emmerdale scriptwriter Tim Dynevor and has been followed into acting by her daughter Phoebe, 26, who is the star of Netflix series Bridgerton.

The couple are also parents to another daughter, Harriet, and a son, Samuel.

Dancing On Ice will return to ITV in the new year with 12 celebrities taking to the rink to impress the viewing public and judging panel.

John Barrowman axed as Dancing on Ice judge

The news comes after ITV confirmed John Barrowman will be dropped as a judge on the latest instalment of the show.

The actor who found fame in Doctor Who and spin-off show Torchwood has been a judge on the show since 2019.

Barrowman, 54, first appeared on the show as a contestant in 2006 where he was the fourth celebrity to be evicted.

A spokeswoman for ITV said: “We thank John Barrowman for two brilliant years on the Dancing On Ice panel and are pleased to be working with him again as host of the forthcoming All Star Musicals specials.”
