A motorist accused of reaching 110mph in a 60mph limit as he fled from police at Old Colwyn was jailed for ten months.

Judge Timothy Petts told 26-year-old Samuel Fenney, of Rhos Road, Rhos on Sea: "You have been given chances to learn from previous trips to court for driving matters. You don't seem to have learned from them."

He was banned from driving for three years and five months and must take an extended test.

Fenney admitted dangerous driving in a Ford Focus on the A547, early on July 1, and failing to provide a breath test.

Prosecutor Catherine Elvin told Caernarfon crown court that Fenney had appeared to be under the influence of drink or drugs when stopped at Albert Road, Old Colwyn.

A roadside test was requested.

But Fenney went back to his car and drove off at speed.

A pursuit lasted for about two minutes until police officers were told to stop.

Fenney said he “panicked,” when quizzed later by police.

Ember Wong, defending, said there was no injury or damage. He filled in a police form and accepted his responsibility.

“He’s devastated by the impact this has had on his parents,” she added.

Judge Petts told the defendant: "You were not fit to drive and you knew it.”

He added: "This is a very serious case. While there wasn’t an accident, the risks of driving even sober at 110mph on these sorts of roads is obvious.

"Any accident at that sort of speed would inevitably have been fatal.”
