THE care leavers team at Conwy County Borough Council are organising a week of themed events and launching a new website developed for and with care leavers.

This is to take place during National Care Leavers’ Week, the world’s biggest celebration of children and young people with care experience, which this year falls during October 25-31.

Councillor Cheryl Carlisle, Conwy’s cabinet member for social care and safeguarding, said: “Our role as corporate parents is one of the most important parts of being a councillor and a role we all take very seriously.

“We want the very best for our young people and we know that the change from being a looked-after child to care leaver is significant.

“It’s our responsibility to make sure that these young people have the support, care and protection they need.

“We’d like to hear from Conwy care leavers, past and present, to help contribute to the new website and to take part in the week’s activities.

“It’ll be an opportunity to be inspired by stories from other young care leavers, pick up practical tips on various topics, take part in activities, and to catch up with personal advisors.”

The new Small Steps Big Future website for care leavers will be launched on Monday, October 25.
