AN MS has urged for everyone who is eligible for a flu vaccination to get protected.

Sam Rowlands, MS for North Wales, said he has a flu jab every year and wants to encourage people across the region protect themselves this winter.

Public Health Wales has launched its biggest ever winter vaccination programme and all eligible people in Wales are being urged to have their free Welsh NHS flu vaccines.

This year the flu vaccination programme has been extended to include all those over 50 years old and between years seven to 11 in the school programme.

"My message is to make sure it’s at the top of your ‘to-do’ list this autumn," said Mr Rowlands. “This year more than ever, people are very aware of the dangers of respiratory viral infection and vaccination is the best way to protect yourself and others around you against flu.

“Flu is bad enough on its own but for anyone who is unfortunate to catch both flu and Covid, the consequences could be very severe indeed. It is vital as many people as possible get protected, particularly those who are most vulnerable. Not only does this protect the individual but also protects our Welsh NHS.”

As the global pandemic continues, the impact of Covid-19 on the nation has been significant, but flu can be serious too. The chances of becoming seriously ill with Covid-19 or flu are greatly reduced by vaccination, as are the risks of spreading these viruses.
