A WOMAN who set up a homelessness charity in Llandudno in 2010 is to feature on this weekend’s episode of the BBC’s Songs of Praise.

Brenda Fogg, founder and leader of ‘Hope Restored’, was interviewed by the programme’s presenter, the Bangor-born singer and presenter Aled Jones, by the Menai Bridge in Anglesey several weeks ago.

The show’s crew also spent a morning filming at Hope Restored's base, the Lighthouse Community Church in Llandudno, all of which will be shown on Sunday, October 24 at 1.15pm on BBC One.

Affectionately known as the 'Angel of Llandudno’ for having spent more than a decade tirelessly helping homeless people in the area, Brenda admitted she was nervous beforehand, but thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

She won’t be seen singing on this weekend’s programme, though – “I think that would have closed us down!” she laughed.

Brenda added: “I’m just very, very honoured that we were chosen. I absolutely loved it.

“It was a lovely afternoon, anyway; the sun was out, and we sat on a wall overlooking the Menai Strait. It was absolutely beautiful; I was very, very lucky.

“Someone just phoned me up randomly a few months ago and said he’d looked on our website and saw the work we did, and that they were thinking of doing a Songs of Praise (episode) based on people that needed help, and would I be interested?

“Obviously it got chosen to go on, so we’re lucky! I’ll be very nervous (on Sunday) – you sit at home and think: ‘Did I say this or that? Was everything OK?’, but they did phone last week to say they’d seen it and it’s pretty good, so I think it should be OK.”

Hope Restored, which also has its own foodbank, was set up by Brenda in 2010 after she noticed a desperate need to help those in need and homeless in the Llandudno area at the time.

Brenda could often be found driving late at night to give out food and blankets to homeless people, and was recognised for her efforts when she received a British Empire Medal (BEM) in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List in 2018.

As well as putting a spotlight on Brenda and the admirable work she and Hope Restored carry out, this weekend’s Songs of Praise episode sees Aled Jones visit Anglesey’s Church Island, a holy place for more than 1,000 years.

Meanwhile, there are birthday celebrations at the Min Y Don Christian adventure centre, located on the southern edge of the Snowdonia National Park, and there is some specially recorded music, as well as some favourite hymns, from Bangor Cathedral.
