LLANDUDNO’S Pier Pavilion has been put up for auction for a price tag of £2.8million.
The 0.5-acre site will be auctioned Allsop as developer Alan Waldron looks to push ahead with plans for a controversial £18m development.
A planning application has been granted for an flats including 54 apartments, a café and two restaurants, as well as 83 parking spaces.
The proposals were approved by Conwy County Borough Council in 2018, only to be called in by the Welsh Government earlier this year after Mr Waldron submitted plans for changes to the development layout at the Grade II* listed site.
The auction states the site is in a “prominent location overlooking Llandudno Beach and Promenade” with nearby amenities including shops, bars and restaurants, and North Shore Beach “within easy reach”.
The development has received strong opposition from town residents and Llandudno Pier owner Adam Williams, who says the flats would put his seaside attraction in jeopardy due to lengthy construction works and the risk of residential complaints.
There will be an online auction on Tuesday, November 9.
Janet Finch-Saunders, MS for Aberconwy, said: “I am shocked to see the land on the market.
“It is a bizarre turn of events, especially bearing in mind that we are awaiting the outcome of the call in.”
Mr Waldron has been approached for comment.
