A FOOD retailer has opened a new store in Penmaenmawr following its £650,000 development.
Co-op is now offering a range of food and drink, a bakery and everyday essentials at the premises on Bangor Road. The 2,500-square-foot store, powered only by renewable energy, will also have parking and an ATM.
Penmaenmawr Phoenix FC members and mascot Pyro attended the official opening on Friday with Co-op staff including store manager Joanne Jones.
A total of 13 jobs have been created at the store.
Mrs Jones said: “We are delighted to have had the opportunity to launch Co-op’s newest store – we are really looking forward to serving and, playing our part in local community life.”
The store will be a focus on fresh, healthy products, food-to-go and award-winning wines, as well as ready meals and pizzas, free-from, and vegan and plant-based products. There will also be a Fairtrade coffee machine.
It will also have a recycling unit for soft plastics that are less likely to be collected by local authorities, including crisp packets, bread bags, single-use carrier bags, lids from ready meals and yogurt pots, biscuit wrappers and pet food pouches
The store will fund community projects through the Co-op’s Membership programme, with 2p of every pound spent by shoppers going towards local causes.
Robert Gainey, Co-op’s area manager, said: “Co-op is committed to connecting communities and making a difference locally, and our aim is to operate at the heart of local life.”
