Coleg Llandrillo students have been taking time out from their studies to organise a ‘12 Days of Christmas’ initiative, encouraging staff to donate to two local food banks.

The Independent Living Skills students suggested specific items for each of the 12 days, although any donations were gratefully received.

All of the donations collected by the students at the college’s Rhos-on-Sea campus will be dropped off at the two benefitting food banks: Conwy Foodbank and Ty Hapus in Llandudno.

The Pre-Vocational Studies and Preparation for Further Education students, who all have additional learning needs, organised the project as part of their BTEC unit.

They collectively decided on this initiative in order to support their local communities during the festive time.

Tutor Helen Chambers said: “Can I take this opportunity to thank our students and all the staff for their kind donations. We are sure that they will benefit lots of families in our local communities this festive season.”

Donations requested included: soup; pasta and rice; soft drinks; pet food; tinned vegetables; toiletries including sanitary products; coffee, tea and sugar; baby products; tinned fruits and desserts; and small toys and stocking fillers.

Coleg Llandrillo’s Independent Living Skills department runs a number of courses for students with mild to moderate learning disabilities, severe learning disabilities and social and emotional behavioural difficulties, which are tailor-made to meet individual needs.
