THE Boxing Day sea dip event planned in Llandudno has unfortunately been cancelled following the latest announcements by the Welsh Government in relation to COVID-19 guidelines.

Today (December 22), a number of new restrictions were confirmed, including the prohibition of indoor or outdoor large events, with a maximum of 50 people allowed at an outdoor event in Wales.

The Lions Club of Llandudno, a community group which organises this annual sea dip, wrote on its Facebook page this afternoon to confirm the cancellation of the event at Llandudno Promenade.

It read: “Following the Welsh Assembly Government announcements today and guidance from the Conwy County Council safety committee, the Lions Club of Llandudno's Boxing Day sea dip is cancelled.

“We must act responsibly and safeguard those talking part as the volunteers who help during event from risks of transferring or catching COVID.

“While this is a blow to the fund raising efforts of the club, we must make sure we comply with advice given to us.

“Please accept our sincere thanks to all those who support the event and those dippers; many travel some way to take part.

“Please keep following our Facebook page for further information. We are making arrangements for making the grand prize draw raffle.

“In the meantime, we wish you all the very best for Christmas. Stay safe.”
