A FORMER Channel 4 Secret Millionaire has cycled more than 350 miles along the Welsh coastline to raise money for a complex disability charity.

Rob Lloyd, a Rhos-on-Sea property entrepreneur, rode from Wrexham to Barry earlier this month, stopping at such places as Rhyl, Llandudno, Caernarfon and Bangor on the way, in the space of nine days.

This was one of his many ‘senseless challenges’ as he aims to raise £100,000 in 12 months for Sense, a charity support deaf/blind children and adults who have complex needs.

Rob has been a major supporter of the charity since running the London marathon for Sense in April 2019, helping to set up a residential centre in Denbigh.

Rob also managed to stop at all the Sense charity stores along the way; a gruelling ride, but with laughs and surprises along the way.

He was accompanied by a number of friends at different points of the ride, and enjoyed an emotional rendezvous with some of the children supported by Sense.

Rob said: “The overall mileage was something like 379 miles, because we did all of the stores that my company had opened for Sense in the last two years, which was nice because none of them missed out.

“We were due to complete it in 10 days but we managed to complete it in nine, which was quite an achievement, I suppose.

“I had a couple of pals who joined en route at various stages to keep me company, which was nice.

“It was a long way for me at my age, so I’m spending a couple of weeks now recovering, ready to do the next one, which will be down with the SAS guys at Brecon Beacons in January.”

So far, Rob, who was diagnosed with lymphoma blood cancer two years ago and finished a course of treatment earlier this year, has completed 18 challenges for Sense since March, and has surpassed £85,000 in donations.

Previous challenges included a 24-hour Three Peaks Challenge, a 10,000ft skydive dressed as James Bond, a gruelling weekend SAS bootcamp, and the Llandudno marathon.

Rob added: “The (Sense) team were very grateful that I completed the (London) marathon, and I got a really good rapport going with them.

“The more you get into understanding what they do as an organisation, the more I got keener to do other things for them.

“I’m confident that we’ll get to £100,000; I think £85,000 has been a good tally this year because it’s not been an easy year for anybody.

“The one in January in Brecon Beacons is basically 15 miles each day; I’m doing it with 37 pounds on my back for two days.

“I did it last year, which nearly killed me just for one day, but I’m doing a double-whammy this time, so that’ll be a tough one.

“A wing walk has been suggested, and things like walking on hot coals, so those are three that I’ll certainly be doing.”
