A FURTHER 24 windows were smashed as an outdoor play area was decimated at Ysgol Tudno, Llandudno, as the school faces repeated acts of vandalism.

For the last two months, the school has come under repeated attacks from a gang of youths in the area, with the total number of smashed windows now up to 36.

On Saturday evening, 24 more windows were smashed as a member of the public flagged that they had seen a group in the yard, and as a teacher arrived later the group of four were spotted running away from the destroyed play area.

Fran Cottington, a member of the staff at the play school adjoined to Ysgol Tudno, said that the “senseless” attacks were causing fear and frustration for those involved with the school.

Mrs Cottington, whose own children attend Ysgol Tudno, said: “Personally, my own child needs that space and I think that is what is making me so angry and upset.

“The fact that it’s a brand-new resource, that was only really finished in the last couple of weeks for those two classes to use.

“It just seems like a senseless act when it’s taken so much funding, so much of the teachers’ time to set that up.

“My daughter is in the school, who has just run over to me and said “Mummy, mummy someone has wrecked all our stuff!”

“The other children are hearing it, children are affected by it, children know that this is happening – they were only enjoying it last week.

“For it to just be taken away from them in one weekend, it’s absolutely heart breaking.”

The school first came under attack two months ago, but the events last weekend represent a steep escalation of damage.

Mrs Cottington added: “It was just windows for a while – the teachers would just be having a meeting and window would be put through.

“This is the worst it’s got and the school’s fear is that they’re going to keep replacing the windows at their cost.

“It’s just a constant barrage of vandalism focused on one school.

“There’s that lasting damage of ‘are my children going to be playing barefoot in the hall now and a shard of glass is going to be left behind from a broken window’.

“How safe are they?”

The school are now looking to install CCTV technology to help combat the damage, but have been quoted £4,000 and £7,000 for it to be fitted.

To help fund the investment, they have set up their own GoFundMe page.

North Wales Police have been approached for comment.
