Conwy has been named among the best places to live in the UK in 2022, according to The Times.

Towns on the list were judged according to a number of criteria, taking into account the high street, travel connections, broadband strength and speed, school performance and peak postcode (in terms of aesthetics and lifestyle.

In The Times post about the Clwyd town, Conwy is described as an “atmospheric seaside town has charm and rebellion in buckets and spades”.

On Conwy’s High Street, special mentions were given to the Cheese Room deli and Bodnant Welsh Food Centre, while the Liverpool Arms received praise for its beer garden, which is the largest in Wales and stretches down the Quay.

Deganwy was named the peak postcode of the area, with its sailing club, golf clubs, beaches and fancy houses and views of the bridges and castle acclaimed in the piece.

The Times described Conwy as the following: “There’s magic in this historic town in north Wales with its 21 towers, crumbling walls, brooding castle, late-afternoon winter murmurations of starlings, set against the glassy waters of the Conwy estuary.

“Whether you are gazing at distant peaks or watching oystercatchers foraging on the mudflats, there’s a view to take the breath away in every direction — including from the waterfront terrace of the Liverpool Arms, the largest beer garden in Wales.

“It’s also the most perfectly placed of towns: for the beaches and mountains of Snowdonia, and convenient trains to Chester, Holyhead and the west coast main line at Crewe. Modern magic.”
