THE recently-opened Marks and Spencer (M&S) store in Parc Llandudno retail park welcomed a surprise guest yesterday (April 26).

Owain Wyn Evans, the Welsh journalist and broadcaster, left shoppers and workers “starstruck” when he visited the supermarket on Tuesday.

Perhaps best known for presenting the weather on the BBC’s “North West Tonight”, Owain also raised more than £3million for Children in Need after completing a 24-hour “drumathon” in November.

This is the most successful 24-hour challenge and the 41-year history of the charity.

M&S – Parc Llandudno wrote on Facebook: “We were all so very excited to meet Owain Wyn Evans in our store today!

“We have always been in awe of the Welsh BBC One weather reporter since he raised an astonishing £3 million for Children in Need by completing a 24-hour drumathon - thank you for visiting our store today, Owain!”

Foods team manager for the Llandudno store, Natalie, added: “We were very starstruck when we saw him; it was lovely to have met him.

“He was so kind and friendly to all our staff and customers and stopped to get lots of photos.

"Owain had actually said someone told him there was a really nice M&S in Llandudno, so he came in to see it and commented on how lovely it is, so that was nice to hear.

"I did find it especially nice to see him spending time with our customers getting photos."

After moving from its previous Llandudno site on Mostyn Street to Parc Llandudno last month, the town’s new M&S boasts features such as a market-style “Foodhall”, a 4ft cheese barge, a “pick your own eggs” section, “Scan and Shop”, and a 119-seat upstairs digital café.
