THE family of a man who died following a crash near Betws-y-Coed have paid tribute to him.

Mark Pell was a serving paramedic with the London Ambulance Service, having joined in 1994.

Mark was one of two paramedics from the London Ambulance Service who were on a training course with the North Wales Police Driver Training Unit at the time of the collision, which happened on the A5 shortly before 2.30pm on Thursday, April 8.

He sadly died on Wednesday, April 13 at Stoke Hospital, after sustaining serious injuries in the crash.

Described by everyone who knew him as a polite, funny, kind and generous person, Mark loved his family and his work dearly.

The family’s tribute read: “Mark was everyone’s friend.

“He is irreplaceable, his kindness and compassion shined through in everything he did, he has left a huge hole in all our lives that will never be filled.

"He was diligent and professional and will never be forgotten. Words cannot explain how empty his family, friends' and colleagues’ lives are now that he’s gone.”

The family extended their thanks to members of the London Ambulance Service who supported the family between the day of the crash and Mark’s passing.

Special mention must be given to Rob Bentley from the Motorcycle Response Unit who stayed with the family at Stoke Hospital during this difficult time.

Mark is survived by his parents Roger and Marilyn, sister Sarah, partner Sarah Jane, brother-in-law Rob, and nephews Oliver, Henry and Elliot.

North Wales Police continue to appeal for any information in relation to the collision.

A police statement said: “A full investigation is underway to establish the circumstances of this collision.

“We appeal to anybody who may have been travelling along the A5 shortly before 2.30pm on Thursday, April 7, and who may have dashcam footage, to contact officers as soon as possible.

“Anybody with information should contact North Wales Police via the website or by calling 101, quoting reference number 22000239178.”
