A RETIREE ARTIST returned to his old Conwy Police Station workplace to present a painting to today’s officers.

Gwynfor Griffiths, originally from Rhosgoch in Anglesey, originally set his heart on a career in art, but was forced to stop pursuing his dream in adolescence.

His excellence at the craft enabled him to attend Frias School of Art in Cardiff, where he passed the practical examination and was offered a place in the College in September 1953.

Sadly, due to receiving insufficient grants from education authorities, the young artist was forced to give up his passion, and soon joined the Welsh Guards, where he would remain for two years.

In 1957, Mr Griffiths would join the Gwynedd Constabulary and later the North Wales Police, serving most of his career in the Criminal Investigation Department.

The retired Police Constable served in Conwy from 1957 until 1968, and presented Sergeant Kim Owen with a painting of Conwy Police Station with himself on duty in Lancaster Square in 1958.

A North Wales Police spokesperson said: “We have heard some wonderful stories of policing in the Conwy & Llandudno Junction areas in the 1950s by Mr Griffiths.
