ROADWORKS at Conwy bridge have caused closures on the A55 this afternoon (May 17).

The road is closed westbound, between Junctions 18 (Llandudno Junction) and 15 (Llanfairfechan).

There is no access to Junction 18 due to the ongoing roadworks at the bridge.

Earlier, the Pen Y Clip tunnel in Penmaenmawr also closed due to emergency works.

The tunnel has now re-opened.

Shortly before 4pm, Traffic Wales tweeted: “Heavy congestion in the area due to temporary tunnel closure.

“Please allow additional time for your journeys.”

North Wales Police added: "Due to ongoing work on the A55 Westbound at Conwy Tunnel, the traffic is quite severe around the area.

"It is currently causing issues. Please do not get out of your vehicles and stand in the carriageway to see what is going on, as you can imagine this is rather dangerous.

"Please avoid the area if possible - we will let you know when the area clears."
