Llandudno campervan site opposed by town council

An application has been submitted to Conwy County Council’s planning committee for permission for a certificate allowing a small campervan site at Tan Yr Allt in Craig y Don.

Mr Paul Collins has written to the council hoping he can make a small profit by allowing as many as five campervans to use his land at one time.

But despite the plans being relatively small scale, a neighbour has objected to his proposals as well as the town council.

In a letter of objection to Conwy’s planning committee, Llandudno Town Council wrote: “Recommended refusal on the grounds that the location is unsuitable for a camper van site due to concerns that the road infrastructure would be unable to accommodate this type of traffic.”`

Neighbour David Reilly also objected. In a letter to the council, he wrote: “I have been sent notice of application for a certificate of lawfulness for the proposed use Tan Yr Allt, 34 Tan y Bryn Road, as a campervan site.

“The observation I can offer as a close neighbour is that during the last 10 years the address has not been used as a campsite, and so this would be a significant change of use.”

In his letter appealing to the council to grant permission for the site. Mr Collins said: “We are on a seven-acre site but only want to offer a maximum of five motor homes to stay on our site with three motorhomes being the usual.

“We are hoping that we can obtain a development certificate for our site on the grounds of opening a very small campervan site here at Tan Yr Allt Hall for tourism and leisure for the enjoyment of obliging the motorhome fraternity with them being able to stay with us and to make a small profit to help run the large estate.”

Gwynedd Archaeologist Planning Service said they had no comment to make on the application.

The application will now go before Conwy’s planning committee for debate before a decision is made.
