A NUMBER of scouts groups in Rhos-on-Sea have come together to raise £2,037 for a Ukrainian Scouts group.

The scouts took part in a number of fundraising ventures, with the Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Squirrels joining the Explorer Scouts in sponsored initiatives such as completing a set amounts of star jumps and taking along puppy Margot for a walk whereby they asked fellow walkers if they would like to pet her for a donation.

Meanwhile, the older members took part in a sponsored 10km walk, all for the benefit of their Ukrainian Scout family, who own a scout campground near Llysfaen but due to recent events (Covid-19 and the ongoing war) have been unable to make the trip over to North Wales.

In that time, the grounds have been looked after the third Rhos-on-Sea scout group, who held a vigil in their honour at the recent meet-up camp on the weekend.

Despite aiming to raise just a few hundred pounds, their sponsored activities raised a huge £1,421, with Scout Leader Neil’s JustGiving page raising a further £616, bringing the total to an impressive £2,037.

A spokesperson for the Rhos-on-Sea scouts said: “We are all so, so proud of the way the group has learnt about the terrible events in the Ukraine and then strived to do what they could to help.

“They all understand that the scout family is worldwide, and they all put in 100 per cent to help their fellow scouting brothers and sisters in need.

“The leaders give up so much of their time volunteering to give our children experiences, skills and friendships, and deserve recognition for the amazing achievement of raising such a brilliant amount of over two thousand pounds.”
