A DOG is to be put down after injuring a woman in Colwyn Bay, while its owner has been banned from having custody of dogs.

Gareth Griffiths, 65, of Endsleigh Road, Old Colwyn, was the owner of Billy, a male German Shepherd, black and tan in colour, which while dangerously out of control in Wellington Road, injured Melanie Jones.

He was found guilty at Llandudno Magistrates’ Court on May 9.

On May 30, the court ordered that Billy be put down, while Mr Griffiths was banned from having custody of a dog for eight years (no application to be made for four years).

He was also sentenced to 26 weeks’ imprisonment, suspended for 12 months, and must complete 150 hours of unpaid work.

Mr Griffiths must also pay £500 in compensation, as well as £620 in costs to the Crown Prosecution Service.

This totalled £1,120, which he will pay in monthly instalments of £100 from June 27.
