A RETIRED Lieutenant Colonel in the British Army has completed the training and assessments which allow him to assume his new voluntary role at the Llandudno Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) station.

In future, when he is on duty and the pager sounds, Charlie Warner will be responsible for responding to the coastguard, making decisions regarding any deployment of the station's lifeboats, and taking overall responsibility for operations.

The role of deputy launching authority is one of the key roles in RNLI rescues and is vital in the safe management of assets when lifeboats are launched.

Charlie said: “I am delighted to be able to join the fantastic team of RNLI lifesavers at Llandudno.

“The training has been rigorous, but definitely made easier by the generous support I have received from colleagues.

“I am really looking forward to joining them in the extraordinary service they provide in saving lives at sea.”

Captain Marcus Elliott, Llandudno lifeboat operations manager, added: “We are all very happy to welcome Charlie to the team as a deputy launching authority.

“It is an important position and Charlie’s background in organisation and decision making fit him very well for the role.”
