Wrexham’s independence march saw thousands of people take to the streets in support of the movement today ( Saturday, July 2).

Wrexham played host to the march for the first time ever, with the original date postponed due to the pandemic.

The march was organised by Yes Cymru and All Under One Banner Cymru (AUOB) along with Indy Fest Wrecsam, who organised a market held at Queen’s Square. This saw stalls selling independence merch, Wrexham Lager, food, and ale as well as cider.

The event saw a turnout of around six thousand to eight thousand people according to the official police number.

Supporters of Welsh independence came from all over Wales, and beyond with Scottish and Irish flag occasionally appearing.

The march began just after 12 this afternoon and was led by the Cambria band who played an assortment of Welsh songs including the National Anthem, Yma O Hyd, and Bread of Heaven.

It took about twenty minutes after the front of the march had set off for the last few people in the march to leave Llwyn Isaf, where the event was held.

Wrexham council had attempted to put a stop to the march earlier this week saying that it was a political event but were unsuccessful.

The next March for Independence will be held in Cardiff on October 1, 2022.
