CROWDS gathered and money was raised to buy medical supplies following another peace march in Llandudno for Ukraine last weekend.

The march started by the bandstand on the North Shore promenade at 12pm on Saturday, July 9.

A similar event in Llandudno was held in April, following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February, while a charity concert in the town in May raised more than £1,000.

Helen Denning, a Llandudno resident originally from Ukraine, who has friends and family still based in her home country, hailed a successful event.

She said: “It was a beautiful day, and we had a good turnout. The marchers carried Ukrainian flags as well as beautiful informative posters made by local refugees and British friends.

"We walked along the promenade singing the Ukrainian anthem and other traditional songs, to the cheers and waves of passers-by.

"When we reached the bandstand we heard an emotional speech about Ukraine from Svitlana, who comes from Kremenchuk, her husband Jonathan, and Volodymir, a Ukrainian teenager from Kyiv.

"His brother, Nikolay, ended the speech by thanking the British people for their support and for welcoming Ukrainians into their homes.

"We then heard a touching poem recited by Anastasiia, a refugee from Kremenchuk, dressed in traditional Ukrainian costume.

"The author, Pavlo Vysheba, is a poet and musician from Kramatorsk who is now defending Ukraine near the Donbas.

"Addressing his daughter, he asks her to speak not of the war but of the beautiful things around us.

"We were joined by Llandudno mayor Carol Marubbi, a loyal supporter of Ukraine, as well as Thea Graham, our lovely Miss Alice, who carried the donation buckets during the march.

"Additionally present were Bernie Haniewicz from Conwy Employment Hub, who kindly brought Ukrainian-language information leaflets about the hub, and the councillor of Tudno Ward, Dr Robert Atenstaedt, and his wife.

"We have collected £175, which we have now transferred to Hospitallers.co.uk for medical supplies for Ukraine.

"Thank you again to everyone who joined us, and for your generous contributions!"
