A MAN accused of setting fire to an outbuilding near his mother’s house had a psychotic disorder and was ordered to be detained at a medium secure psychiatric hospital by a judge today (August 12).

Llifon Parry, 25, of no fixed address, admitted arson being reckless as to whether life was endangered at Llanfairpwllgwyngyll (Llanfair PG).

Judge Timothy Petts told him at Caernarfon Crown Court: “In April, you set fire to a building very close to the back door of your mother’s house.

“It could have had very serious consequences.”

But Parry needed medical help. He was detained at Ty Llewelyn at Llanfairfechan.

Prosecutor Dafydd Roberts said Parry had explained, when quizzed, that he disliked his mother but he had no intention to harm anyone.

He had been discharged from the Hergest mental health unit at Ysbyty Gwynedd, Bangor, the day before the offence.

Sarah Yates, defending, said there were significant mental health difficulties.
