Denbighshire Council has reassured residents that recently resurfaced roads will rectify over time following complaints about rough and bumpy surfaces.

Angry residents have plastered their discontent all over social media, complaining about the state of roads around Cae Seren and Bro Deg in Ruthin.

The roads have recently been re-laid by council contractors.

But whilst there have been relatively few complaints from residents living on Parc y Dre Road, other areas have been left bumpy.

Some residents even likened driving on roads such as Cae Seren and Bro Deg to driving over speed bumps.

But the council has now claimed that the ‘asphalt’ is self-levelling and will smooth out once traffic has flattened the road.

Cllr Huw Hilditch-Roberts said he had received complaints, which he had taken to council highway officers.

“Residents in the Cae Seren, Parc y Dre, and Bro Deg areas alerted me to the issue, and I contacted officers and was given assurance that this was a process that has been tried and tested,” he said.

“This was the process that was used to resurface Erw Goch many years ago, which is tried and tested; however, in some areas, there have been remedial works that need to be dealt with and additional iron works (drains) that need to be completed.

“Having raised this with officers, I have been given assurance that they have formally raised this with the contractors, and they will be back to put right any remedial work.”

A spokesperson for Denbighshire County Council said: “All of the carbon-friendly road resurfacing work has been completed on Parc y Dre Road. No issues of concern have been found with this section of work.

“Micro-asphalt works have also taken place on Cae Seren, which is very near to Parc y Dre.

“This site formed part of the Micro-asphalt programme and was undertaken by a different contractor. The material when initially laid can look untidy as it is a very different process, but this is normal and will settle down over a short period of time.”

“Further minor work will take place in Cae Seren to adjust those items of ironwork which require raising to the new surface levels. This will take place later this week.”
