COUNTY councils in North Wales has congratulated students for their A/ AS Level results, published today (August 18).

Cllr Gill German, cabinet lead member for education, children and families services, at Denbighshire County Council said: “I would like to say a huge congratulations to the AS and A-Level classes of 2022.

“Our Years 12 and 13 have shown tremendous resilience, commitment, dedication and courage at what has continued to be a difficult year following the impact of COVID and lockdown.

“Students have worked tirelessly against the odds and have been supported every step of the way by our schools, staff and parents/guardians.

“Seeing how our schools and communities have pulled together during the coronavirus pandemic has been fantastic and despite disruptions pupils have continued to learn and achieve throughout.

“Reaching this stage has truly been a wonderful team effort, but the pupils themselves have really gone above and beyond.

“I would like to extend my warmest congratulations to those moving on to further education, the world of work or whichever journey they are following, as well as my best wishes to those going into their final year in September.”

Cllr Beca Brown, Gwynedd Council's cabinet member for education, said: We should be proud of the success of our young people.

"The students are to be congratulated for their dedication and perseverance and I offer my sincere gratitude to the teachers and school staff for their hard work during the year and for preparing students so thoroughly for the examinations under this year’s challenging conditions.

“I would like to wish our young people all the best as they take the next steps in their careers.”

Garem Jackson, head of education for Gwynedd Council, said he was extremely pleased with the A-Level results of students in Gwynedd secondary schools.

He added: “It’s a pleasure to state how pleased I am with the results in Gwynedd schools.

"The students and their teachers are to be congratulated warmly on their success.

“I would like to thank the schools and the teachers most sincerely for their hard work and professionalism, the students for their exceptional efforts and their families for their constant support. 

“Although the numbers sitting examinations vary substantially across subjects, it is pleasing to note that the results are very good in Welsh, history, chemistry, physics, mathematics and English literature."

The head of education also referred to the students’ success in the AS exams and wished them all the best in their A-Levels next year.

Cllr Julie Fallon, Conwy County Borough Council’s cabinet member for education, said: “I’d like to congratulate all our learners throughout the County on their achievements in this year’s A and AS Level results.

"They’ve done so well and worked so hard to achieve these results.

“I wish them all the best as they decide on their future careers, and I'm sure they will all join me in thanking their parents, families, our excellent teachers and support staff who have helped and supported them throughout their studies.”
