THE Conwy Archive Service has been awarded an Archive Service Accreditation, the UK quality standard which recognises good performance in all areas of archive service delivery.

Accredited archive services ensure the long-term collection, preservation and accessibility of archive heritage.

Achieving accredited status demonstrates that Conwy Archive Service has met clearly defined national standards relating to management and resourcing: the care of its unique collections and what the service offers to its entire range of users.

Conwy Archive Service looks after the historic records of Conwy County dating back to 1341, and makes them accessible to the public.

Councillor Aaron Wynne, Conwy’s Cabinet Member for Leisure and Culture, said: “I’m delighted that our Archive Service has received this recognition for the quality of the service it provides in looking after Conwy’s archival heritage and making sure that as many people as possible are able to access it.”

The Archive Service Accreditation Panel noted that the Service “is creative and ambitious, and with a fully catalogued and properly stored collection, it can and wants to focus on taking those collections out to its community”.

Conwy Archives are co-located with Conwy Library at Conwy Culture Centre since this welcoming public facility opened in late 2019.

As the service becomes accredited it now looks forward to delivering its forward plan and continuing to engage new audiences with the archive collection.

In 2015, Conwy County Borough Council was awarded £71,500 and a further £900,000 in 2017 by the National Lottery Heritage Fund for the Conwy Culture Centre project.
