LAST Thursday (September 29), more than 20 organisations were represented at a drop-in event in Llandudno Town Hall, hosted by Aberconwy MP, Robin Millar.

Organisations including Conwy Council, Crest, Tenovus and Cambrian Savings and Loans were on hand to offer free advice and support on issues such as reducing energy bills, accessing benefits and grants, safe and affordable ways to borrow money and help available within communities.

Speaking after the event, Mr Millar said: “I know how concerned so many residents and businesses throughout Aberconwy are about the cost of living and spiralling energy bills.

“I have taken these concerns directly to UK Government ministers and I welcome the Energy Price Guarantee scheme, unveiled by the Prime Minister last month, which means that a typical household will pay no more than £2,500 per year for energy over the next two years.

“However, I know that many people are still very worried about the winter ahead; that is why I felt it was important to host this event in Llandudno, the first of similar events throughout Aberconwy.

“Over 100 people came along to see what additional support is available and to seek advice on a range of issues, including reducing bills and accessing grants.

“I am grateful that so many local organisations were here to offer support and I’d like to thank them for the invaluable contribution that they make to our communities all year round.

“I have created a cost-of-living online hub on my website which contains information about support that it available from the UK Government, Welsh Government and the council.

“It also includes links to the organisations that attended the drop in event and it can be accessed from the homepage of my website at robin-millar.co.uk.

“Winter can be a particularly lonely time for people and loneliness often goes unspoken about.

“No one needs to feel alone or without help and there are several organisations, including Church groups and veterans’ charities, that actively seek to support people experiencing loneliness.

“If you are experiencing loneliness please don’t hesitate to get in touch with my office (robin.millar.mp@parliament.uk or 01492 583094) or to look at the organisations listed on my website.

“My team and I are here to help.”
