Four North Wales counties have been named fourth cheapest UK destination for an autumn getaway according to Holiday booking site, LateRooms.com. 

Using internal data, LateRooms.com looked at the average price of accommodation for the month of October in 96 of the UK’s counties to determine the cheapest places to stay.

The number of free local attractions in each of the cheapest destinations was also noted, to highlight how families can holiday on a budget.

The 10 cheapest staycation destinations based on the average cost of accommodation per night for a family of four are:

  • Carmarthenshire - £111.20  (58 free activities and attractions)
  • Bridgend - £117.84 (21 free activities and attractions)
  • Conwy - £118.36  (135 free activities and attractions)
  • Flintshire - £120.00 (27 free activities and attractions)
  • Merthyr Tydfil - £120.44  (4 free activities and attractions)
  • East Riding of Yorkshire - £121.20 (184 free activities and attractions)
  • Shropshire - £121.80  (167 free activities and attractions)
  • Gwynedd - £122.08  (106 free activities and attractions)
  • Tyne and Wear - £122.56  (249 free activities and attractions)
  • Isle of Anglesey - £122.68  (62 free activities and attractions)

Out of the ten cheapest locations, Welsh towns and counties make up seven out of ten. 

The data reveals that Carmarthenshire, where industrial meets rural and the valleys meet the sea, is an ideal location for a staycation on a budget. Accommodation costs an average of £111.20 per night for a family of four, and the county boasts 58 entirely free attractions and activities.
