A NEW fabrics shop has opened in Llanrwst, selling a wide array of items and gifts, many of which are sewn by the owner herself.

Sarah Frith celebrated the first day of business for “Flutterby Fabrics”, on Denbigh Road, last Friday (October 7).

Sewing has been a lifelong hobby for Sarah, and after developing a successful online business, she has been delighted by the reaction from customers in the store’s first few days.

Sarah, originally from Cheshire and now living Llanrwst, said: “It’s fabrics and haberdashery; quilting, dress-making, bag-making… I’ve got gift items for sewers and non-sewers, I make bags, cushions to sell as they are, and sewing kits.

“The cushions and tote bags, when I’ve been selling before, have been the most popular items.

“I’ve sewn all my life, in different guises. I used to work at the Imperial Hotel in Llandudno; my most recent job being making the curtains, blinds and soft furnishings.

“I had a break from it, but it’s a new venture for me. I’d sold bits online from my previous property, but I didn’t have enough room, really. I viewed a few properties, and fell in love with this one.

“It’s different to just selling online; I have a lot of customers online who I talk to as though I know, even though I’ve never actually met them, but it’s nice meeting them face to face.

“When you work and live on your own, I suppose the dog gets fed up of hearing your voice!

“It’s surprising how many people do sew, and how many took it up in lockdown and have continued. It’s going to take me a while to get know what people in town want, as opposed to my online customers!

“In Llanrwst, all of the townspeople and shopkeepers have been so welcoming. The amount of people who have come in and said it was just what the town needed… I couldn’t have wished for a better response, really.”

“Flutterby Fabrics” is open from 10am until 5pm on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays, and from 10am until 4pm on Saturdays.
