A HEAVY goods vehicle carrying more than 6,000 chickens overturned.
North Wales Police were called at about 4.30am this morning (October 26) to a report that a lorry, carrying 6,400 live chickens had overturned on the A5 at Maerdy, Llangwm, Conwy, near Corwen.
A spokesperson for North Wales Police said: "Officers attended, along with colleagues from Traffic Wales, Highways, and North Wales Fire and Rescue Service, who were there to assist with a fuel spillage.
"The lorry has been recovered and the chickens that were being transported in crates have been transferred to another truck."
A spokesperson from North Wales Fire and Rescue said: "Our crews were in attendance from an environmental point of view - to prevent fuel from the overturned vehicle entering the watercourse."
Crews were called to the scene just after 5am this morning.
The road re-opened sometime after 4pm.
Firefighters from Corwen and Wrexham and the Environmental Protection Unit attended.
