A KITTEN that was rescued from a Rhuddlan property along with his brother has had his second eye removed and is doing well in his recovery.

Prince and brother Duke were found at a home in Rhuddlan, where there are a large number of cats that live along the gardens and are fed by residents.

Idlewild Animal Sanctuary, at Pen Bryn Twrw Farm, Llanbedr-y-cennin, were called to rescue a group of kittens with cat flu, with one named Queenie soon losing an eye.

One kitten died the night before the Sanctaury were informed about the group, while another died upon collection, followed by a third death the day after.

Brothers Prince and Duke battled on, but the flu has caused one of Prince’s eyes to rupture, so it had to be removed.

Duke narrowly avoided having an eye removed, but Prince’s second eye soon ruptured, resulting in its removal and leaving the kitten blind.

Since then, both siblings have made strides in their recovery, and have been reunited at the Sanctuary, which plans to rehome the brothers together.

A spokesperson for the Idlewild Animal Sanctuary said: “We want to say a massive thank you to Mary at Wern vets in Llanrwst for getting Prince through his second eye removal surgery.

“He has just come back home and is catching up with his brother Duke before his cone goes on.

“We don't want him or Duke pulling out his stitches but wanted to let them have five minutes to catch up - poor Duke has missed Prince a lot.

“We thought long and hard about removing his second eye but we feel giving him a chance was the best option for him.

“Prince is doing amazing, you wouldn't know he has just has his second big op for such a little guy.

“He is gaining weight, playing with his brother and purring when you cuddle him, so we do feel he has a quality of life. We are devastated we couldn't save his other eye, but we feel that he will cope as he has never been able to see.
