NEIGHBOURS living near a Conwy Valley caravan park have slammed plans for holiday lodges at the site.

Peter Davidson, of Llandudno-based 3D Property Investment, has applied to Conwy County Council, seeking permission for 15 timber holiday lodges at Tyn Terfyn Caravan Site in Tal y Bont.

But neighbours living near the caravan park on Llanrwst Road oppose the plans on the 62-hectre site, claiming it will cause a sewage overload and parking problems on the edge of the Snowdonia National Park.

Neighbours also complained about past planning applications at the caravan park, which they said had been granted retrospectively.

Resident Mr R.K Allen wrote a letter to Conwy County Council objecting to the plans.

Mr Allen claimed there had been sewage problems at the caravan park in the past.

“Both my wife and myself wish to complain in the strongest possible manner about the 15 lodges, each accommodating up to four to six people,” he wrote.

“It is not on. It is extremely despicable that the planning committee have allowed this man to get away with several retrospective planning applications in the past.

“As you will be perfectly aware, his ideas have caused considerable problems with our small neighbourhood in the past.

“You will take into account that his camping plot (or whatever you wish to call it back then) created havoc with our neighbourhood sewage system, our house included, which was proved it was due to the volume of campers and site that was, without doubt, causing the overload of our very finely balanced sewer system. And on several occasions, we had to keep calling the services to come and unblock the drains.”

The letter concluded: “Furthermore, his drive entrance, with vehicles continually coming and going off the main road into his camp, will cause traffic problems for the village.”

Another neighbour also sent a letter complaining about the plans.

“I’m deeply concerned about the large development taking place in our very small area of Tal y Bont, which has about 50 residents,” wrote the unnamed resident.

“The most urgent cause for concern has to be the toll taken on our sewage system, which has had problems for many years with sewage backing up into Cae Siop.

“I wonder, do Conwy Council planners come and have a really good look at our small area and actually see what damage a large influx of people and cars will make?

“The mobile homes/chalets at Tyn Terfyn seem to be open to any amount of visitors from two to six people in each property.”

“I have no idea what the parking will be. Is there parking for more than one vehicle at each chalet?

“The entrance to Tyn Terfyn is quite narrow, as a lot of traffic entering and leaving the property could cause problems with the traffic flow.

“This development is visible from several footpaths and Pen y Gaer, which is in Snowdonia National Park. The Conwy Valley is designated as a Special Landscape Area.”

They added: “We really do need to protect our lovely little hamlet of Castell.”

Mr Davidson’s agent Cadnant Planning was contacted about the neighbours’ fears and complaints, but they declined to comment.

The application will now be decided at a future planning committee meeting.
