RESTAURANTS and cafes across North Wales are celebrating St David’s Day with menus that are a little bit special.

Wales’ patron saint day is seeing hundreds of events take place across the country, and restaurants and cafes across North Wales have produced special menus for the big day.

Deganwy Tea Station are providing some Welsh specials, including:

  • Chicken and leek soup
  • Lamb stew topped with a Welsh cheese scone
  • Leek and cheese quiche with salad, coleslaw and buttered new potatoes
  • Bara brith bread and butter pudding with creamy custard, ice cream or cream
  • Welsh cakes served with a blueberry, lemon and honey whipped cream

Cantîn in Bodlondeb are inviting people to “celebrate the patron saint of Wales with a traditional Welsh cake and a cup of Welsh brew”.

At the Hilton Garden Inn Snowdonia, guests can tuck into a delightful dinner that features all the Welsh favourites such as:

  • Packed with delicious local ingredients fresh from the rivers, coast and farms of North Wales, they’ll start with a hearty serving of Welsh rarebit, leek and potato soup, pan fried mussels from Conwy, and Glamorgan sausages made with Caerphilly cheese and leek
  • For the main event, they’ll tuck into the hours-aged Welsh lamb stew and traditional Welsh faggots, and finish with the choice of traditional Welsh cake with Bara Birth or goats cheese cheesecake
  • A harpist will serenade guests throughout the evening

Café R in Ruthin will provide a free Welsh cake with every medium sized Costa drink purchased, alongside Welsh specials including:

  • Minted Welsh lamb leek & potato pie in puff pastry with chips and mushy peas
  • Café R’s Welsh steak burger topped with Welsh rarebit, streaky bacon, chips and slaw
  • Bara brith bread and butter pudding with custard
