GROUPS and organisations in Clwyd West have benefitted to the tune of £65,556 in the last three months thanks to National Lottery funding.

The funding is made possible thanks to National Lottery players, which enables grants to be awarded to grassroots projects, as well as larger awards to tackle issues such as improving mental health and tackling homelessness.

The majority of the funding is to small, community-based organisations; more than 80 per cent of the grants The National Lottery Community Fund award are for £10,000 or less.

The community projects which successfully applied for a grant from The National Lottery Community Fund in Clwyd West since November are:

  • Ysgol Bryn Elian, Colwyn Bay - £9,420.
  • Abergele Men's Shed - £26,136.
  • Action for Children - £10,000.
  • Sound Radio CIC - £10,000.
  • Outside Lives Ltd - £10,000.

Ysgol Bryn Elian will develop a community mini maker space to encourage primary and secondary school pupils and the wider community to develop a passion for digital and traditional crafts and learn new skills.

The £9,420 will fund a desktop laser cutter and filter, “vacformers”, vinyl cutter, 3D printer and materials.

Abergele Men's Shed will carry out the capital preparation work for the renovation of a bespoke, permanent base in the centre of Abergele.

Once renovated, the building will allow men to support each other, connect, converse and create.

The £26,136 grant will pay for renovation costs including design, building services and fees.

They will deliver training and workshops for adults, children and young people in partnership with North Wales Rugby.

£10,000 will fund salaries, activity resources and travel.

Sound Radio CIC will produce news content and broadcast information to support the community through the cost of living crisis.

The CIC will offer training courses and opportunities to develop transferrable skills leading to employment opportunities.

The £10,000 grant will fund rent, utilities, licences, insurance and internet.

Outside Lives Ltd will support people through the cost of living crisis by providing communal meals as social events to combat isolation and loneliness.

The £10,000 grant will pay for staff, refreshments, materials, marketing, venue costs and overheads.

Darren Millar, Clwyd West MS, said: “I am delighted to hear that so much has been allocated to group in my constituency.

“All the successful projects carry out important work in the local community and this additional funding will enable them to expand and develop this.

“I congratulate them all and wish them well with the future endeavours.”
