A CAMPAIGN to reduce the speed limit on a road in Conwy has been successful, after being launched five years ago.

Sections of the A470 in Dolwyddelan will be reduced from a 30mph limit to 20mph, in an effort to increase safety in the Conwy village.

In 2018, Aberconwy MS Janet Finch-Saunders launched a community campaign on behalf of concerned residents to reduce the limit, which has now been approved by Welsh Government.

On 24 February, the Deputy Minister for Climate Change Lee Waters MS said to Mrs Finch-Saunders: “The majority of the A470 at Dolwyddelan will become 20mph, however there are two sections where the criteria for 20mph are not met so we are proposing to keep them at 30mph by Road Traffic Orders: The proposed 30mph sections are shown on DataMapWales.

“When the draft Orders for the 30mph are published in the next few weeks, the links will be added to the map, and people will have an opportunity to comment as part of the consultation stage.”

Commenting on the Deputy Minister’s response, the Aberconwy MS said: “I was delighted to hear that the Welsh Government are going to impose a 20mph speed limit for sections of the A470 in Dolwyddelan.

“After almost five years of running this community campaign, myself and the residents get to reap the rewards of a safer community with potentially less collisions on this vital stretch of road.

“I want to encourage all residents of the community to look on the Data Map Wales once the draft Orders have been uploaded by the Welsh Government so that they can review the two sections that will potentially be remaining at 30mph, and have their say during the consultation stage.”
