THIS week’s Nostalgia looks at the history of White Rose Motor Services, commonly known as the White Rose Garage.
The company built up a large fleet of vehicles including single deck buses, open topped double decker buses and charabancs.
The business was started in 1912, and was established by brothers Joseph, Daniel and Thomas Brookes on the East Parade.
In 1914, six of their ten-strong fleet were commandeered by the War Office, leaving them short of vehicles. The company bounced back post-War and in the 1920s saw a boom in business.
They offered daily tours to beauty spots in the area grew quickly to include more than 25 destinations, and more depots were opened in Prestatyn and Denbigh after WWI.
In 1930, the company was purchased by the London, Midland & Scottish Railway, bringing an end to just its bus operations while other services continued.
