A FUNDRAISER has been launched for repairs at Abergele Cricket Club as it endures vandalism on a “day to day basis”.

The club say they have had to deal with vandalism for years, and just recently had their moveable nets and sight screens damaged.

They described the latest damage as a “significant setback”, with the cost of replacing covers more than the amount their insurance will cover.

A GoFundMe has been set up to raise money for repairs and new equipment, and has so far raised £290 from a target of £1,500.

On the fundraising page, the club said: “Our club has been an integral part of the community for many years, providing a space for both young and old to come together and share their passion for cricket.

“We are deeply saddened to announce that our cricket club has suffered a significant setback due to multiple acts of vandalism.

“Our covers, which are essential equipment for protecting the pitch during bad weather, have been maliciously damaged, resulting in them no longer being usable and meant we needed to order replacements, our insurance did cover some but unfortunately not the full cost.

“As a non-profit organization, we rely heavily on donations from our supporters to keep our club running, and this unexpected expense has put us in a difficult financial position.

“With your generous support, we can repair the damage and get back to playing the game we love.

“Any amount you can contribute will make a real difference to our club and help us continue to provide a safe and enjoyable environment for players of all ages and abilities.”

An Abergele Cricket Club spokesperson added: “We are still battling vandalism on a day to day basis.”

The club has reported the vandalism to the police.
