A FOOTBALL club in Conwy will be starting a veterans’ team for all its ex-players older than 35.

Glan Conwy FC, whose main team compete in the North Wales Coast East Football League Premier Division, will be starting a veteran team after former players were keen to continue playing.

The club, whose home ground is Cae Fwt, are appealing for former players with an interest in playing to get in touch.

They hope that the team will be able to join a veterans’ league.

A club spokesperson told the Pioneer: “We are starting a team as a lot of our ex-players are past 35 and they are keen to play.“Hopefully we can join the vets league - with the Sunday league folding it brings some football back to Cae Fwt.

“We already have a good amount of players interested - still room for more though as a big squad will be needed to rotate players.”

In March, the Rhyl and District Sunday Football League announced it would cease operations at the end of the current season due to a lack of new clubs and referees, as well as player limitations between different leagues.

This has left many clubs in a tough predicament – Glan Conwy FC were not part of the league when the news came out, but it has forced them to consider more veteran-geared options.
