A FREE family event was held today (May 13) along a sunny Colwyn Bay promenade.
“Prom Xtra” attracted plenty to the prom, with its attractions including a funfair, stalls, and lots more entertainment along the beach.
Stalls were set up by the likes of St David's Hospice, Joan's North Wales Parrot Rescue, Colwyn Jet Ski Club, and The Llandudno and Colwyn Bay Electric Railway.
There was also a pull-a-string stall, raising money for The Hummingbird Project, and a South African food stand.
Further down the prom, there was a funfair, with attractions such as a Ferris wheel, a "funhouse", hook-a-duck, and waltzers.
For youngsters, there was the chance to play bubble football, as well as try out beach space hoppers, slot racing on a Skalextric track, kids’ quads, and cricket.
Children also enjoyed the “Wheelie Play Bus”, a converted double-decker bus which provided a soft play area for them.
There was also a range of artistic activities, including a sand art workshop, and "The Big Beach Build", a new sandcastle competition involving teams of up to six people.
Teams were given a contest flag with a number put on their castle, before building between 11am and 2pm.
Judging took place between 2.15-3pm, before the winners were revealed at 3:30pm at Beach Academy.
Prizes included the Golden Bucket Award for the winners, and runners-up medals for second and third place.
Elizah, aged 10, won the competition with this effort:
Beach Academy also ran other fun challenges next to its tent at Prom Xtra, including beach ball golf, and how high people could stack their own castle bucket tower.
People could also take a break and relax in deckchairs in front of the promenade's main stage, while watching many of the live musical performances throughout the day.
Performers included Finn Ambers; The Racoons, who performed such covers as "Gimme Shelter and Hey Jude"; and "Ghostbuskers" who entralled the crowd with renditions of "The Lovecats", "Sit Down" and more.
This year, there was also a second stage on the pier where people could watch more from the performers, while you could also get your picture taken at a “360 photobooth”.
Prom Xtra is sponsored by Bay of Colwyn Town Council, Knightly’s Fun Fair, Foster Wales Conwy and North Wales Adoption Service.
