THE new mayor of Conwy has been sworn in.
The Mayoral Inauguration was held at the Guildhall on Monday, May 22. Councillor Eva Roberts was elected and sworn in as Mayor of Conwy and Constable of the Castle for the Civic Year 2023/24. Guests attended and a procession from the Council Chamber to the Castle Entrance took place and was led by two drummers and the Knights Templar who formed an arch of swords.
The ceremony continued with the raising of the Constable’s Pennant.
Cllr Roberts has taken over the reins from cllr Joan Vaughan.
Deputy mayor is cllr Jannette Hughes.
Having signed the Declaration of Acceptance of Office, cllr Roberts said: "I am honoured to stand here and look forward to a year of exciting possibilities. There will be many opportunities to represent this council and our communities, and I can’t wait to get out there.
"I will be supporting two charities that work closely within our communities of Conwy, Llandudno Junction and Deganwy and they are Aberconwy Domestic Abuse Service who support victims of domestic abuse and their families. I will also be supporting the Youth Shedz who work with young people from across our communities with activities, support, mentoring and learning new skills. We were lucky to be presented with this mace stand made by talented young people from Youth Shedz.
"I feel strongly about building working relationships with our communities and see a greater awareness and understanding of what we do here at Conwy Town Council. I would also like to see the Council engage and work more closely with our schools to encourage future generations to get involved and have their say.

The new mayor thanked the Guildhall staff and the past mayor and presented bouquets to all.
The celebration continued with a toast to The King, the mayor and guests.
