PEOPLE have rallied behind an Abergele pub after a malicious “fake” review tried to ruin its reputation.

A TripAdvisor review of the George & Dragon, on Market Street, claimed “drug dealers and drug takers” were on the premises, with “faecal matter” on the toilet walls.

On social media, the pub, which reopened under new management last month, said the one-star review was a “blatant attack and slur” on its reputation.

The people of Abergele (and beyond) have come to the business’ defence, with one person commenting: “I think the person who has written this review has got the wrong pub, the new landlady has done a fantastic job of turning the pub around.

“It has great bar staff and fantastic food and also great entertainment which the place needed.”

Another resident warned others not to be disheartened by the “disgraceful attack”, adding: “The present landlady has put her heart and soul into turning the amazing community pub around, the place is clean, the beers and drinks first class, the new chefs full of amazing and adorable meals.

“Our new landlady is inspirational full of enthusiastic excitement for this wonderful community pub.”

One person, who had recently travelled from Australia for a reunion at the pub, labelled the review “absolute rubbish”.

The continued: “The landlady is amazing and the food was delicious - the people of Abergele should be proud to have such a lovely pub in their town.

“It's unbelievable how nasty and jealous some people can be.”

Others who were present on the night in question rubbished claims that drugs were on the premises, and said the review “couldn’t be any further from the truth”.

The pub is run by new landlady Michelle Partington after Lee Murphy, who had owned the pub for nearly 11 years, decided not to renew its contract with Star Pubs & Bars.

Mr Murphy initially closed the pub on January 30, before it re-opened for a short while under a temporary management team.
