A POPULAR farm park which is closing later this year has opened its gates to visitors for its "last summer holiday".

Bodafon Farm Park is set to close in October.

Mark Roberts, owner of the site, is semi-retiring.

The attraction posted on Facebook on Monday, July 24: "Free entry to Conwy County Residents 2023. Open every day for our last summer holidays. Farm park 10am until 5pm. Cafe 11am until 4pm. You don't need to book.

"Serving out on our courtyard garden with large canopy or inside the restaurant. dogs on a lead are welcome.

"We have a large collection of owls, come and feed the goats, deer & Llamas. Relax whilst the kids play on the fort, swings and mini tractors."

The Pioneer reported in February that the farm - which has been popular with residents and visitors for more than two decades - has entered its final year.

Mark, who also runs the Penrhyn Arms in Penrhynside, said: "I have enjoyed farming the place, I have enjoyed developing the farm park, I have been very lucky really. I have enjoyed every minute of it. It is not just me, but all the staff as well. It is a nice place to work and it is family oriented as well.

“I will be leaving the site in January [2024]. I’ve been here a long time so there is quite a lot to do to get the site spick and span.

“It is a very seasonal business. It is a summer business on the whole. If it wasn’t for the weddings and the functions, it would be very difficult to make it pay at all.”

Mark said that the Penrhyn Arms had "really taken off".

“To be quite honest, travelling between the two is getting quite difficult really,” he added.

“I’m not getting any younger.

“Also, the lease had come to an end and there is not a lot we could do about it.

"I opened it in 1999 [the farm park] and I went there in 1990.

“I will miss the farming aspect. I did really enjoy that. I will be 65 by the time I leave and it doesn’t get any easier. I’m looking forward to doing something a bit different and having a bit more time off possibly.”

Admission is £3.50. Children under three are free.

Residents who live in the Conwy county area are asked to bring proof of address for a 'free pass'.
