EMMERDALE actor Andy Moore enjoyed a short stay in Llandudno last week with his wife, which could not even be spoiled by a seagull stealing his ice cream.

Andy, who has played police officer PC Mike Swirling in the soap since May 2004, was snapped paying a visit to Llandudno Pier on August 1, only for a gull to make off with his treat.

He and wife Jan were celebrating their 39th wedding anniversary, but despite staying at a “lovely” hotel and enjoying some “brilliant” meals, Andy said the incident with the gull was “the highlight of the holiday”.

“We had a great time; we really love Llandudno,” Andy said.

“The last time we went was just before lockdown; there’s not a town like it.

“We stayed at the lovely Bryn-Y-Mor hotel for the first time; we had a sea view room, with a bay window, and a table and two chairs. It was great sitting there, having a drink.

“I have the utmost respect for that seagull. His or her operation was stealth and clean in the manoeuvre to snatch my ice cream.

“Apparently, they’re just as bad with fish and chips – that’s not a good diet for seagulls, is it?!”

Andy and Jan stayed in Llandudno for two nights last week, before heading back to their Ashton-under-Lyne home on August 2 after a trip up the Great Orme earlier that day.

He’s back filming for Emmerdale later this week, having also previously featured in such programmes as Coronation Street, The Fall, and Game of Thrones.

Hailing from Manchester, Andy has starred in more than 200 episodes of Emmerdale since his debut on the show 19 years ago.

Andy added: “It’s difficult for us to get a big break away from home because our youngest is autistic, and although we have an older daughter who stayed with her, we don’t like to put that on somebody for a whole week.

“When I got home, the neighbours and the care workers for our daughter all said: ‘I believe you got mugged by a seagull!’

“We went from a brilliant meal, recommended by the host at Bryn-Y-Mor, at ‘Snooze’, just round the corner from the hotel.

“I highly recommend it - it was beautiful food we had there; strips of steak, chicken, fries, really well-seasoned salad, and a bottle of Prosecco between us.

“The ice cream in that photo (above) was a replacement for the first one. The lady at the pier saw the seagull steal the first one – she was laughing her head off.

“She asked if I wanted another one, then said: ‘You’re the policeman off Emmerdale, aren’t you?’ For the rest of the holiday, I was no longer ‘the policeman off Emmerdale’.

“When we went to an Indian restaurant the next night, the waiter said: ‘You’re the fella who had his ice cream nicked by a seagull!’”
