A MAN from Colwyn Bay who sexually assaulted a woman in her sleep three times has been jailed.

Peter Walls, 71, of Ffordd Pandy, was sentenced to three years and nine months’ imprisonment at Mold Crown Court today (August 16).

He had previously pleaded guilty, on May 30, to three counts of assault by penetration.

Prosecuting, Elen Owen told the court that all three incidents took place in 2020.

The victim contacted police in April 2022, which led to Walls being arrested.

In a statement, the victim said she felt he “used my vulnerabilities against me”.

Defending Walls, who had no previous convictions, John Wyn Williams said he had otherwise been a “man of good character”.

“He sees himself as the victim in this case, which doesn’t assist him at all,” Mr Williams added.

Walls was said to have suffered from various mental health issues, as well as other medical ailments which he has been advised to seek assistance for in custody.

Though he was deemed to be at low risk of re-offending, he was assessed as being of “medium risk to women”.

Sentencing, Judge Niclas Parry also imposed an indefinite restraining order upon Walls.

He will also adhere to sex offenders register notification requirements for life, and pay a statutory surcharge upon his release from prison.

Judge Parry told Walls: “Even now, you continue to be dismissive of the seriousness of what you’ve done, and your clear lack of respect for her remains.

“You have an utter disregard for her obvious vulnerabilities.”
