AN ONLINE donations page and a fundraiser event to remember a “caring” man from Llandudno following his death in July have raised in excess of £1,500 for the hospital which treated him.

Mark Lehart, known as “Hartley”, died peacefully at Ysbyty Glan Clwyd, Bodelwyddan aged 60 on July 31, after a battle with cancer.

A fundraiser “memorial soul night” was be held in Mark’s memory on September 2 at Llandudno Rugby Club, which included a number of DJ sets.

The proceeds from this event totalled £1,025 which, coupled with the £717 donated to a page set up in Mark’s memory online, will be given to ward nine at Glan Clwyd.

Mark’s brother, Eddie, said: “Everything will go to ward nine at Glan Clwyd. There was quite a good turnout at the event, which was a nice way to remember Mark, as well.”

Previously, Eddie had told the Pioneer: Eddie added: “The nurses in Glan Clywd were outstanding in the care they gave him – one of them actually went to his funeral.

“They went above and beyond for Mark.”

Mark was laid to rest at Our Lady Star of the Sea Church on Tuesday, August 15.

He grew up on a council estate in Llandudno, served as an altar boy and attended Loreto College, Llandudno, before working as a carpet fitter for much of his adult life.

He is survived by his mother, Alice; his brothers, Eddie, Tommy and Robbie; his daughter, Emma; and his grandchildren, Edie and Albie.

Reading a eulogy at his funeral, his cousin Christine described him as a “true Llandudno lad, with a heart as big as the Great Orme itself”.
